As I am teaching myself how to sculpt I can be pretty varied in what I want to try. Having rewatched Kubo and the Two Strings for the millionth time I decided to try my hand at building a character maquette.
The only part of the character I decided beforehand was that I wanted to create a "kindly old man".
Here is the start....

Not particularly kindly, but its just the start!
Seeing as this sculpt was purely for myself and I'm learning along the way I can take my time and add as much detail as I like. I've been able to play around a little along the way and see where the character takes me.
This is how the head turned out!
So the next part I decided to sculpt was the hands. My first attempt at miniature hands (or sculpting hands at all, really)!

To get a better idea of his proportions I put together a mock up armature. I want him to look long and lanky, with a slight hunch and constantly bent legs. As if his is conscious of his height and is trying to appear smaller and less intimidating.

My next step is to pad out his body and then fabricate some clothes for him...
